Solara Fluted Lantern Floor Lamp

Most floor lamps hide the globe. Solara shows it, through a fluted glass lantern on a brushed brass stem. The bulb becomes part of the aesthetic, and that changes what globe you put in it.

Fluted glass and what it does to light
The vertical flutes act as a series of narrow lenses. A warm-white LED through fluted glass breaks into vertical bands of light on the wall behind the lamp and across the ceiling. It is not ambient wash; it is decorative. The kind of lamp that earns its place by being looked at as much as by lighting the room. Stands 173cm on a brushed brass pole and a matching round base, 4.8kg, slim footprint.

Pick the globe carefully
Because the bulb is visible, shape matters. A standard A60 LED disappears behind the flutes. A vintage-style G95 or ST64 filament LED becomes the centrepiece. The filament pattern refracts through the glass and draws the eye. Takes a standard E27 socket. Warm white at 2700K reads most flattering through the fluted glass; daylight bulbs look cold here and kill the whole vintage effect.

Sits best
Beside an entryway console, at the end of a hallway, in a dining nook, or next to a reading chair where the glow becomes part of the evening furniture. Not a task lamp. A mood lamp that happens to give off 300 to 500 lumens.
