Marceau Linen Drum Floor Lamp

Reading light has a geometry problem. A normal floor lamp stands beside your chair, and your book is not beside the chair, it is in your lap. Marceau solves it the direct way. A matte black steel arm leaves the pole at a clean 90 degrees, reaches 49.3cm sideways, and holds the beige linen shade out over the arm of the couch. That puts the light source above the page instead of beside it.

A straight elbow, not a curve
Plenty of downbridge lamps get there with a big sweeping bend. Marceau does not. The arm is dead straight with one sharp elbow, which reads architectural, almost drafted, next to curvier lamps. If your room already has clean lines, black window joinery, square edged furniture, this is the one that belongs. The whole thing stands 163.5cm tall, and a round weighted disc base, 25cm across, keeps it planted while the shade hangs out over your seat.

The linen drum
The shade itself is beige linen, 30cm wide and 18cm tall, on a single E27 socket. A globe is not included, which means the mood is your call. Our pick would be a warm white frosted globe for evenings with a book, and save the bright cool whites for the home office.

Sits best
Behind the arm of a reading chair or at the end of a couch, base tucked alongside so the shade does the reaching. The 1.8m cable has an inline foot switch, so you can tap it on without leaving your seat. Suits modern living rooms and bedrooms, anywhere a chair needs its own light without a ceiling fitting.
