Slate Tray Floor Lamp

A side table plus a floor lamp is two pieces of furniture. Slate is one. The tray at mid-height holds the book, the mug, the reading glasses, and the lamp above it gives you the light to read them by.

Tray height and what fits on it
The tray sits about 60cm off the ground, around the height of a short side table. Wide enough for a laptop, a hardback book, or a mug and a saucer side by side. Dark metal finish that matches the pole and the round base, 4.9kg total, 160cm to the top of the shade. The tray edge is lipped slightly to stop things rolling off, though a wet glass on a rug is still a wet glass on a rug.

Where Slate earns its keep
Beside a reading chair that does not have a side table. In a studio apartment where every piece of furniture has to do two jobs. Next to a bed where the floor plan cannot fit a bedside table. Uses a standard E27 globe. Warm-white LED light falls directly onto the tray, which also lights whatever you are reading on it, from a paperback to a laptop screen. For a compact reading corner, this is the most flexible single piece you can buy.
